(LYNCHBURG, Va., Sept. 24, 2021) – Delta Star has been manufacturing electrical power products of all sizes for utilities, industrials, and municipalities throughout North America for over a century. Delta Star is the North American industry leader for power transformers, mobile transformers, and substation solutions.
Meeting the energy needs of the future is not a simple or easy task. It requires teamwork, individual job excellence, and continual improvement across the entire company. It is a task only accomplished through the power of people.
Delta Star strives to create an environment that places the needs of those it serves at the center of all they do. Their core values have powered them to build a strong business, culture, and way of life-one that provides sustainability through quality products and services.
One such example is Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO). Their substation in Washington, D.C., experienced an equipment failure causing nearly 40,000 residents to be without power. The power outage affected a significant portion of Northwest D.C., which included several neighborhoods, businesses, grocery stores, college campuses, hospitals, and a public transit hub.
Less than 24-hours after the power outage occurred, Delta Star received permit approval and the mobile substation departed from Delta Star’s Lynchburg, Virginia., facility to PEPCO’s substation, with two escort vehicles. The mobile substation arrived in Washington, D.C., with a U.S. Capitol Police escort less than four hours later and was in the final stages of positioning on the installation area by 8:30 p.m. Hookups on the mobile began the next morning.
Delta Star’s rapid response, logistical support, and customer-focused mindset ensured safety and success in resolving a pressing emergency in the nation’s capital. This further solidified the company’s commitment to providing quality-driven utilities with superior products, exceptional service and innovative substation power solutions.
Continually developing and enhancing an environment of stewardship, excellence, fairness, respect, honesty, and personal responsibility is the company’s guide to fulfilling its vision. Through its vision, the company attains to be the leading transformer manufacturing and substation services company in the industry, one that continuously improves the performance, delivery, and reliability of power to meet the energy needs of the future.
As an employee-owned company, the men and women of Delta Star are its greatest assets. Two-thirds of the company consist of a union workforce with a relationship built on intelligently matching common interests. “As long as there is that trusting relationship, having that voice on the floor has helped us out quite a bit,” said Jason Greene, President and CEO of Delta Star.
Local 2173, represents the Virginia-based Delta Star workers and Vacaville, California., Local 1245, represents workers at the company’s facility in San Carlos, California. “We don’t build them (transformers) cookie cutter,” said Dayton Morrell, Warranty Administration Associate at Delta Star and former business manager of the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 2173. “We make the best in the world, the Cadillac of transformers.”
Ensuring the delivery of a quality product and service requires guidelines, policies, and procedures all focused on providing a best-in-class customer experience. Each department within Delta Star remains fully engaged in the process from creation to delivery. From the customer’s point of view, they not only prefer Delta Star because of the quality products manufactured, but also because the company delivers a superior customer experience.
Working together to deliver quality products and services is why Delta Star sees business from customers like Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) who believe that investments such as a new transformer are part of the ongoing commitment to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to individuals through the state of Pennsylvania.
